F.A.Q:
Q: What happens if an active brother gets elected to a national office?
A: That brothers status would be changed to Alumni. What this means is that they may still attend chapter meetings (any chapter) but just can't vote.
Q: What are the time commitments?
A: That really does vary. During the "busy" season some jobs have a lot to do. For example you have all heard me harping about getting rosters in. That is when things are at their busiest - the rosters are coming in, the semester bills are going out and received (or chased down), pledge items are ordered, and replenishment of sundry items. This is a team effort though. The secretary gets the rosters and saves those, they forward a copy to the treasurer who does a very simple invoice and that gets emailed out. Once the treasurer has received payment they send the roster on to the quartermaster (thats a new job that will be by appointment) who will handle items and goods for the fraternity.
The Sergeant at Arms time depends on issues that might come up regarding disciplinary actions, or clarification of fraternity documents or codes.
The historian can be a busy job at times: they will get updates from the chapters on what is coming up for the next semester, information about their chapter (graduations, births, marriages, deployments, etc.) and that will get archived and go into the national newsletter.
The VP is there to oversee pledge process, education packets and material for the chapters, and to be available to assist the president or other duties assigned (if someone is ill or needs additional help).
The secretary attends every national officer board meeting and fraternity senate meeting. They write the minutes using the minutes form. Those minutes are then sent to their respective groups. The secretary also receives the chapter meeting minutes and archives those, and keeps track of our permanent records.
Q: What happens if I get elected to more than one office?
A: That obviously can't happen, only one office per person. There are guidelines in place for such events so don't worry.
Q: I have a disciplinary action from national, am I still qualified?
A: So long as you were not removed from the fraternity or are currently on probation, so yes you still qualify.
